ABOUT THE CICADA BEETLE
The cicada is a golden, musical beetle, whose song has long served as a muse of writers and artists. The ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Socrates wrote of the power of cicadas to enchant mortal men into eternal worship of the three Muses. In North America, broods of cicadae remain in nymph form for thirteen to seventeen years, and then all at once a they emerge and form a vibrant chorus of song, perched in the high branches of trees. Consider this dormant form of the insect as a symbol representing an alchemical vessel of growth and repair, death and rebirth. As your guide, I will offer you tools and instruction in how to awaken from this state of rest into a more active and satisfying creative practice.
